The Institute of Energy and Environmental Studies (IEES) is one of the three interdisciplinary research institutes at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET). The IEES started its journey through the approval of the Syndicate of RUET by the 79th Meeting held on 21st October 2016. The aims and objectives of this institute are as follows:

1. To promote and provide facilities for postgraduate degrees (MPhil, M.Sc. and Ph.D.) and postgraduate diploma study in IEES for graduates from various disciplines. 
2. To pursue advanced research and innovations actively in the energy & environment in order to develop knowledge-based products and services. 
3. To provide trained manpower to both professionals and non-professionals with strong engineering R&D capabilities in the energy and environment-related areas like:
   • Renewable energy technologies
   •  Energy use, energy efficiency, energy conservation and sustainability
   • Energy and environmental audits
   • Energy policy
   • Instrumentation and control systems applied to energy and environment projects
   • Industrial and automotive emission analysis and control
   • Cost benefits analysis of the impact of uses of conventional and renewable energy technologies on the public health
   • Socio-cultural and behavioral aspects of energy production and environmental changes
   • Developing projects specifically related to CDM
   • Environmental impact analysis, resource assessment and waste management 
4. To collaborate with industry, government, utilities and other universities to accomplish the set goals. 
5. To introduce to the industries various environment-friendly energy-efficient technologies and provide services in implementing energy conservation measures. 
6. Provide consultancy and advisory services to public and private organizations.
